tanyas berliner tage: remixed

I loved this editorial in the Winter issue of Tush magazine. There was a certain element of old-school glam in some of the images that really caught my attention. I also had a bit of time on my hands so, instead of just doing the usual reposting of images, I decided to mix things up and get a bit crafty and collage the images for this post.

valerie tolosa spring summer 2010

Light in white: (l-r) Lila frill neck dress, Miley tiered dress, Aerial flouncy dress

Spring has definitely sprung, if Valerie Tolosa's latest collection is anything to go by. I'm liking the fresh colour palette of whites and pastels, which are occasionally offset by bold black. My picks from the collection are the Eden front frill dress, Ali tutu dress, Gemma angel wing dress, Gia halter playsuit and the Victoria maxi skirt.

Tutu for you: Ali tutu dress, Danielynn tutu dress, Chabeli strapless v dress

Frilling: Harper ruffle sleeve dress, Eden front frill dress, Gemma angel wing dress

Short n sweet: Apple strapless playsuit, Gia halter playsuit, Oliver cami & Rumer shorts

Bow-peep: Daisy crochet dress, Saddy contrast bow dress, Valentina strapless bow dress

Get maxi: Victoria maxi skirt, Lordes button front maxi dress, Zahara crochet maxi dress

i heart:

Campaign shots for Karen Walker Jewellery.

I love the use of the kitschy porcelain figurines. It makes me want to do the same and drape my necklaces and bracelets over a bunch of figurines, although I doubt I'd be able to achieve the same aesthetic. These images are from an assortment of collections, the last being from her latest 'Superfine' collection.

the circus

Last night I channelled my inner teenybopper. How? By attending a Britney Spears concert. Ohhh there goes my street cred. I don't usually attend concerts that place more emphasis on the 'production' than the music (as a matter of fact, I had no intention of going to this until a friend offered me a discounted ticket), but I'm not gonna lie, it was pretty spectacular. Despite all the fuss about Britney lip-synching. Seriously, it's Britney, what were you expecting? Britney is the epitome of pop music, and what's one of the characteristic trademarks of the pop phenomenon? Lip-synching! However, there was a certain energy missing in Brit's performance, which was slightly disappointing, but her team of talented backup dancers more than made up for it. Can I just say that her backup dancers are freakin' amazing? Below are some photos I took on my camera phone. Hence the poor quality.

what i wore yesterday

I pretty much wear this hat every chance I get. It's love. Anyway, I wore this to a friend's BBQ yesterday. In my opinion, there's no better way to spend a summery afternoon than a BBQ with friends.

Jamie T - The Man's Machine.

Seriously, I just heart this kid. Which is why I'm going to go see him again at Sunset Sounds in January (among other bands of course). He's not on the promotional poster below, but he'll be there. And it will be a million different kinds of awesome. I'm also excited for Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Grizzly Bear!

So far I'm only going to Sunset Sounds and Laneway. I opted not to go to Big Day Out this year. I just don't think I can handle it anymore. It's just too much. This will only be the second year that Sunset Sounds is running, but I had such a great time at the first one that I'm already calling it my favourite summer festival.

Are you a festival fiend? If so, what are your favourite festivals?

Just a quick illustration I did the other day, of this image from the Juliette Hogan SS09 lookbook.

from russia with love

I've been feeling a bit off my game lately, thanks to a cold that I started coming down with at the beginning of the week (seriously, immune system, what more do you want me to do? I exercise regularly, I eat my vegetables, I don't touch escalator railings, I carry hand sanitizer everywhere etc. Just telll meeeeee). Anyway I didn't really know what to post today, so I thought I'd just leave you all with some pretty pictures from Yen magazine.

things i should really stop buying: part one

Floral dresses. Well, floral anything really. I bought this Quirky Circus by Mink Pink dress over the weekend. I just couldn't resist, mainly because the print reminded me of my favourite floral dress from when I was a kid (ahh the power of nostalgia). Plus I used a gift card to purchase this, so technically it doesn't count as 'buying' it. It was a belated birthday present!

'Everyday' t-shirts. Can you ever have too many plain t-shirts? It seems that I am on a mission to find out. Bought these for cheap at Valleygirl (cue various ick noises... but hey, at least it wasn't Supre, right?) I wouldn't even have bought these if it wasn't for the pockets. That's another thing I should probably stop doing: buying things just because they have pockets.

Now, I'm not necessarily saying that having too many of these is a bad thing, but sometimes after I come home from a shopping trip I tend to realise that "hey, maybe I didn't need to buy another white v-neck t-shirt to add to my collection of 23459874565476 other white v-neck t-shirts". Or that instead of spending all my money on the same style dress, I could have invested in an equally awesome but totally different type of dress. You know, because variety is the spice of life. Apparently.

So tell me, what are your "things that you should really stop buying"? (Or, to phrase it more positively, "things that you can't get enough of"?)

summer soundtrack sundays

Philadelphia Grand Jury - The Good News

Loving the Philadelphia Grand Jury (also affectionately known as the Philly Jays) at the moment. I've had their other song, Going to the Casino, stuck in my head on and off for the last month or so. I saw this film clip on TV yesterday and loved it. So I YouTubed it and spent way too much time pausing/rewinding it etc trying to find all the items. I tried without pausing the first time. Major fail.

Anyway, I'm off to the beach today! Hooray! Hope you are all having a lovely weekend.

P.S. I'm thinking of making every Sunday a 'summer soundtrack' post. Basically it's like 'music Mondays' but a day earlier. And it will only last for the duration of the summer months. And I'll make sure every song I post has a distinct 'summer' feel to it. Y/N?

P.P.S. I guess 'Summer Soundtrack Sundays' officially began with this post two weeks ago.
